In May 2025, conductor Yajie Ye was invited to serve as Guest Conducting Program Director and Fellow at the inaugural South China Contemporary Creative Music Institute (SCCCMI) — a pioneering initiative that brought together composers and performers from across Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao. Hosted by leading institutions such as South China Normal University and South China University of Technology, the festival was supported by the region’s Creative Arts Alliance and curated by the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Composers and Compositional Research Network.
During the four-day residency, Yajie conducted a series of rehearsals, reading sessions, and concert performances. A highlight of her involvement was Wendy Wan-Ki Lee’s Silent Blooms (2013), a delicately textured work for flute, clarinet, viola, cello, and piano. She led both the rehearsal process and the public performance, held at the South China Normal University Music Hall.
Yajie also collaborated with emerging composers on two new premieres:
These reading sessions offered young composers the opportunity to explore their work in a professional, performance-led setting. Throughout the programme, Yajie also contributed to composer discussion panels and mentoring activities, further supporting the festival’s emphasis on creative exchange and practical development.
